Cal Massey est aussi l'auteur de la musique scénique de Lady Day, A Musical Tragedy (1972), spectacle créé au lendemain de sa mort.
Le pianiste Stanley Cowell a écrit un morceau en hommage au compositeur, sobrement intitulé "Cal Massey", qu'il a enregistré en solo (Live At Maybeck Recital Hall, Concord, 1990) en quartet (avec le saxophoniste Clifford Jordan, Glass Bead Games, Strata-East, 1973) et en quintet (Great Friends, avec Sonny Fortune, Billy Harper, Reggie Workman et Billy Hart, Black & Blue, 1986). - McCoy Tyner lui a également dédié une composition, "Folks" (Echoes of A Friend, Milestones).
Le fils de Cal Massey, le saxophoniste Zane Massey, a enregistré deux albums pour Delmark (Brass Knuckles et Safe To Imagine), sur lesquels figurent des morceaux signés par son père.
